Disappointing. I contacted the agency a few hours before to ask if the trip was still going ahead in view of the bad weather forecast. They didn’t respond so we turned up anyway. The man who greeted us at the office was unwelcoming (rather rude even) and chaotic. We ended up spending a total of around 15 minutes actually walking in the park and perhaps another 15/20 inside a couple of churches. The rest of the time we were sheltering from the rain in the minibus. It was lovely to see the frescoes and I cannot criticise our guide, Claudio, who was friendly and enthusiastic and did his best despite the weather. However, I do feel that the 140 euros we paid was excessive given the situation. The trip should either have been cancelled or we should, at the very least, been offered a partial refund.

Our guide, Mimme, was fantastic. She is very knowledgeable about both the botanical and the human history of le Murghe. Her English is excellent and intelligible. We were fortunate to be a group of just 6 so we covered a lot of ground, had lots of questions answered— I would warn folks to take extra layers of clothes, as after sunset it gets chilly. ( we were there late September) Also bear in mind: you will walk a lot! Wear footware to hike nimbly in.

Enjoyable tour with Ivan, a very well-informed guide who answered questions on the history, ecology, archaeology and geology of Parca della Murgia and two Rupestrian churches. The view of Matera at sunset is stunning.

Our guide, Michela, was a very passionate guide! He’s from Matera, so he has first hand knowledge from growing up in the city as well as the surrounding area. We learned about the churches and the flora that grows in the area. We even tasted rocket that was growing in the park! He was very good about pointing things out that we would’ve never noticed or perceived without a guide. And of course, the sunset was spectacular!

This was an incredible experience. We were very lucky, our guide, Mikele, was very knowledgeable and passionate. He shared a lot of information with us from history to architecture, nature and ecology. The sunset over Matera was breathtaking! I would highly recommend this experience.

What started out to be an exhilarating and worthwhile walk turned into a fascinating historical overview of the area opposite the Sissi. We were on the 6:00pm tour, which terminated at sunset, which happened to be quite spectacular with wispy clouds on the horizon. We visited a couple of rock/cave churches, as well as the set of a soon to be filmed movie. Loved it!!

Claudio was a fantastic guide. He is full of energy, passion & knowledge. The walk thru the park is magical. And seeing Sassi Caveoso from the park is breathtaking. Definitely sign up for this hike

We went to the meeting place a day before and were told that the tour would start at 5, not 5:30 as was scheduled. We got there on time and by 5:15 nobody was giving us any explanation as to why the tour was delayed. We finally set out on a mini bus, got to the destination and were on the bus for 15 minutes just sitting there again without any explanation as to what was happening. The guide who was going to give the tour in Italian was late but our guide was on the bus. We then got out of the bus and started the tour with Claudio. He's a very nice guy, but his English is not. He had a lot of difficulty explaining things, his sentences didn't make sense at times. We were looking forward to seeing the churches and hiking in the park, but they need to be more organized and hire people with better language skills.
